The time finally arrived when I needed to upgrade to a Meta Quest 3. My Quest 2 sits on the stand, factory-reset and waiting to be traded in. I did think about keeping it, as I have a history of VR adoration, in fact, it stems from the early 90s. Look back at other VR posts where I mention this. I wanted to give a send-off to my fabulous Quest 2. As a starting point for kids, the Quest 2, as of writing this, is still phenomenal. The capability is outstanding for its age and size. Having now swapped to a Quest 3, it is miles ahead, but the experience is relatively unchanged!

I have wanted VR to work as mixed system, for decades. I love the idea that I can work on 3D designs in my living-room, with it floating ahead of me as I annotate. This would be the ultimate notebook, for me. This is the closest I have found to that experience, and is 95% there! I enjoyed using my HP Mixed Reality Headset in the past, for which I still own, boxed, and wanted to see the front cameras used for this purpose, but it was never able to. The 3, is where this is at!
For what a 2 will now cost you, it is a great toy-console, and able to make some excellent fun, for the kids, or you, on a wet weekend. There are many available apps and games, and they all work with minimal lag. If you want to play a short Star Wars story, I highly recommend the Vader VR series. The stories are short, but all three have great gym games built in, and Vader is as intimidating as you would expect. With the release of the 3S, the 2 is cheaper than ever, just make sure you get the 128gb version, as the old 64gb is not really big enough, now. The 3S has the technology of the 3, but the capability of the 2, so it is really an updated replacement. There is a lot to offer in VR, and may developers are excelling in a new field of design. Here’s to the future!
