Bring Back the Sand

I was made aware of an interesting article, recently. As Louisiana’s coast erodes away, there is an innovative attempt at saving it. This option is about turning glass into sand to refill their coastline. I was taken aback by this, as it is a true reversal of substance. Well, it’s very close; it’s not ‘exactly’ the same sand that it was, but the reverse is so close and looks the part, too.

The use of glass has been around for centuries and it has been well recycled over the past decades. With this technology, we can now revert it, meaning that not all glass has to be re-processed into a new item. It brings me back to the firms of the late 2000s that mastered using excess rubber and plastics to form mousemats and other assorted items. This was an incredible idea and helped to keep the landfill levels, down. Creating the original substrate from the material in question, takes it to the next level.

I look forward to seeing what happens with Louisiana’s coastline, I hope they are able to hold back the erosive tide and keep the area as natural as possible, with inland spaces protected, too. Well done people in BIG sheds!
