I have finally been able to create the first iteration of the new latch for the gate. Once I move it over to the centre of the yard, I want one gate to be easily opened for access between the front of the house and the Workshop’s yard.

I needed to purchase a step-bit for drilling into the metal. The material was from two floating shelf brackets. I cut the one off to size, then removed the two bars from the other. This required some stiff reasoning, squishing it in the big vice, then tapping it back and forth until they broke free.
The old lifting-catch needed to be cut off and the bracket stretched to fit the new one in place. Due to the way it has been fixed, it only goes so far, but I will adapt it once I have moved them across and painted them up.
