Just a Fill-In…3D Scanning

There are times when the writing process is blocked by a lack of ideas. There are times that stop you writing due to tiredness. This is not either of those, it’s a need to write, but doesn’t have a specific reason except to fill-in a gap that my head thinks is needed to be filled. What are these ramblings? Well…

I was thinking about the ideas of scanning for fast printing. To make this a simplified concept, the idea comes from the current scanners that are on the market. 3D printer firms often design 3D scanners to attempt to replicate the object that you need to fabricate. What about one that is hooked to your printer and scans within a chamber? It is effectively a replicator, just slower than that seen on Star Trek, but it’s an interesting point. Even our phones could be effective on this; carrying tiny computers around with us could be used as the controllers.

Even so, the binding between the Scan-Chamber and the printer, would be integrated into one unit. The next thought is about materials. It might be better to work with resin, as opposed to PLA. It would need to be a clean consumer unit, minimising the chance of plastic spaghetti. It’s the kind of innovation that Japan will likely have had a go at. They are always ahead of the game when techonology advances through research and development. Ramble over!
