The time finally arrived, the big adjustable spanner was to be refurbished. I had picked it up at a charity shop, six months ago. You could see that it was a handmade tool, likely made in somebody’s garage. It was stiff and the teeth were getting stuck in place, so it needed to be taken apart. I tapped and turned it until it came free, sliding out of it’s seat. I was then able to wire brush the teeth and get the grubby oil off of them.

Once the first clean was done, I used WD40 to wipe off the last of the debris. This was then able to slot back together. It now sits on the wall, ready for use. A tool that set me back, £2.50, was now having a new lease of life. I am very happy with it; I will make a start on refurbing and painting the adjustable wrench, next.
