School projects can cause much amusement when prepped at home. Parents are tasked with creating intricate costumes and accessories. In this case, 2019’s project was all about Egypt. We were given the idea to create a great Egyptian Princess costume, with a labelled pyramid to back it up.

All work was done by hand, utilising the creativity’s best friend, paper-mache. The pyramid was constructed with cardboard and covered in squares of old, brown, sugar-paper. The block design worked great and was down to my , very, creative, late wife. You can see in the images that the project was relatively cheap and used a lot of bits from the craft drawers. A great idea is to get tester-rips of wallpaper. The right design can create a block or brick finish with ease.
The headwear is paper-mache. It was all about moulding and painting it when dry. This was a really hand-on part of the project, one that those with a love of messy digits, will love. We stuck a few plastic gems to it, and voila!

The Tutankhamun book had a craft project, within, and thus, it was also made to add more depth to the build. The end result was great; it did what was intended and created a fabulous way of learning through kinaesthesis. I am a kinaesthetic learner and always get more, if not all, from touching the objects and forming ideas through a physical connection.

This project is great if you are tasked with a poster project from your child’s class. It ditches the old poster ideas and makes a 3D display piece. Lots of fun, and very cheap, and we even added a couple of camels to seal the deal! What more could we want?
