Set Review – 40639 Bird’s Nest

Looking through my older sets, that are stored in a rather chaotic fashion, I found this one and thought it would be perfect for the Easter Monday post and Build with G, episode. What’s better than a Spring, feeling, build? This set was purchased a few years ago, and is now found in old stock. In 2023, this set was £10.99, but since retiring is found for £16+. We like to build, during Christmas, as this is a certified ‘toy-time.’ At Easter, it’s nice to thing that the season has a set style of its own. This one is cute and just right for the occasion.

Opening up the box, we find five plastic bags. These are split into two pairs, and number three, all on its own. There are distinct colour changes through each of these, with the first bag being all about the mummy-bird’s build, the second as the brown and floral nest, and finally the baby birds with the three, bright, eggs. I could see that this would be fiddly from the start, but it turned out to be full of Spring greatness. The build took me thirty-five minutes, but this could be gently done over an hour, if you so chose to. The more I built, the sweeter this got.

Look at those cute birdies!

By the end, it is formed into a lovely display piece, but that’s not to say that younglings couldn’t enjoy some play time with it. It invites a need to chirp as you look at it, so who knows what could be done with it? It is, in all essence, a diorama that tells a story. What story do you get from it? I think the babies have lost the comfy spot in the nest, those pesky eggs have rested on the bedding. Whatever your choice, this retired set is a nice build and worth a hunt if you like Lego’s nature ideas. Colourful, cute, and deserving of your time. Happy Easter, everybody!
