Set Review – 42001 Technic Mini Off-Roader (Find)

It’s small, it’s perky, it’s all about Technic parts placed into a tight space. The moment that I opened it, I knew that this was a great find for the £5 that I paid. It’s a small box, and one of two that I will share in the coming weeks. Purchased from the charity shop, this one is quite a surprise. When building it, it has a small box that contains two, white, rubber-bands. These are used around a tow-balled-pin to create a super, but basic, suspension system. Such a joy!

The other impressive aspect, is that of the chassis being used as an interchangeable base. Sliding a pin from the bottom, will mean a simple chage to the other model found within the second instruction booklet. You could make several bodies for it, as long as the frame is the same and sits in the chassis. I love this!

Overall, it’s a simple build, with no more than 30 minutes to be set aside. There is only so much that can be offered in terms of a review, but I would say that this is a great gift idea; there are new sets still showing up in old stock. It won’t break the bank and offer fun beyond its simplistic build, making it great for anybody. It uses small Technic parts, that fit into a small package. I could see this being used as a great ramp-car. With a few extra peices, most likely found in your Lego box, you could create a cool chop-and-change product. I maybe looking at this differently to Lego, but I can’t help feel that there is more out there. Anyway, it’s worth is…SUCH FUN!

First Impressions – A cute build, with a satisfying suspension. Not bad!

Price-Point – Below Average

Time to Build – 20-30 Minutes

Score: 8/10
