Although I began with Lego from the very start of my life, I started collecting sets in the early 2000s. I was a lover of Technic, the engineering and the brilliance that came with each set astounded me. This is a Technic set, and I was happy to have a return to the old days, with the knowledge that many sets now incorporate it, anyway. I was aghast at the sight of the sticker sheet, and most of all, the longer ones. Needless to say, they were fiddly to put on.

Emptying the set out was the usual mash. The array of pieces was quite a challenge, certainly compared to what I have become used to. Still, it was time to build it. I’m not going to lie, it was boring. The overall look, is great, but the outcome is somewhat lacklustre. When you have fiddled with the different angles, added the stickered panels, then placed it in front of you, that’s about it. Being a pull-back vehicle adds to it, but Technic has a far grandiose engineering feel than normal sets, an area that this should likely have been placed in. I adore the fact that monster-trucks, new and old, have been addressed. They look great. I have one of the first two to be released in the cupboard, but I’m not sure I’ll build it, now.

If it was kept as a subset of the City range, then it would work as a fun jumping vehicle. But as a Technic one, it has no steering or movement to enjoy, something that Technic offers. It looks smart, and it’s a great ornament, but that’s all I’d recommend it for. The build itself was annoying, it didn’t give me the usual flare that I feel as I build a new part of the Lego world. I almost chucked it to one side and built something else, so that’s a first. I would love to see Bigfoot in this mix, that was my favourite as a child, and one I’d pay to build and use as a retro-throwback shelf-piece. Buying this may be okay for you, but I am seasoned, and pretty sad about it, to be honest.
