Set Review – 60430 Interstellar Spaceship

This is the first of the new City Space range that I have built. I think of this like Cadbury putting all of their base chocolate bars under the Dairy Milk umbrella. Still, it looked quite intriguing, so I decided to pick it up. At £17.99, it’s a little steep, but I was lucky and found it on sale for £13.99. As always, the set was split into bags and still has the paper instructions. I have yet to come across any without them, but I am sure they’re on their way.

This set was nice to build. A solid construction, and some cool functionallity. The barrel brick in the top is used as a switch. I didn’t see this as I was building, so it was a surprise mechanic during the construction. Colour schemes are nice, with the orange being used quite seldom. The overall ice-white look of the new Space sets, it fresh. Another aspect that’s quite apparent, is the increase in ‘female’ figures being used. Over the past few years, Lego have introduced a much more diverse population to the Lego world. Construction workers being all genders and a lot more scope on the disabilities that society have. I love this and look forward to seeing it grow, because of it.

The minifigure, that I have named, Alice, has a tattooed face. Whether it is permanent of not, it is still a cool new addition to bring Lego into the 21st Century. As a set, it is well worth it, especially at the £14 I paid, but as a toy, it’s boundless. A child will love the setup, and make many an adventure out in their own space jungles. Get your hands on this, I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed. One thing I would like to see, is some builds being non-symmetrical. Most builds are predictable left and right. Something that forces us to stop and think before adding a brick, must be a good thing. It’s nit-picky, but what can you say about a set that is good, other than it has printed bricks, no stickers! That’s a win, for me!

First Impressions – A fun build. A definite grab for all ages. The kids’ll love it!
