This is the second to last of the bagged Lego sets that I found at my local charity shop. I am always keen to get my hands on the ocean sets, as water is a key part of my own life, and so enjoy the build of vehicles that mimic my own loves. To make a start on this post, I want to say that it was missing three parts, of which I found from my own piece-population, so in this case, it wasn’t too much of a hassle. The overall quality is great, as a playset, it is brilliant, having some interesting pieces and adding a new creature to my plastic menagerie. The Deep Sea Angler Fish is on a transparent Technic bar and can by rushed out of its rock-face-hideaway. You can then see why the submarine-pilot has such a scared look on his face.

The accessories will all go into my piece boxes, but I will keep the sub, built. It’s cool and will go well with a set that I have in my collection, that I will build and review, in time. The stickers were mostly applied, though poorly, and one of the pieces had been partially mangled. Other than that, it is clean and barely used. For the £8 price tag, this was a good buy. Even though it is retired, it is still around in old stock, and if you can get it for the original £24.99, it’s a good build for that money.

The minifigures are very inkeeping, two that head out to speak to the crabs and possible some research, and two submariners, inside the body of the yellow boat. I am still unsure why the rear has no door to seal it up, but I found that sticking the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) onto it, appears to do the trick. I made sure that I hadn’t missed anything, but asides one piece that didn’t belong with the set, there were no more. It copuld also be a part of the make-up when you have all the Ocean Exporer sets, similar to that of the Space sets being modular.

Get your hands on this if you know your kid will love it, or you’re like me and want to stick it on display. Lego vehicles will always work and attract people to them, they are almost akin to Lego’s ‘bread-and-butter.’ It better than a previous sub-surface set that I built before, offering far more play for the money that you’ll pay. Good stuff.
