Set Review – 60401 Construction Roller

This little set caught my eye. I was hoping that the wheel-mountings are printed. Upon building it, they were! The curved Technic length has a printed 1×6 Yellow Tile added to it. This deserves to be mentioned first, so that I can exclaim that yet another set doesn’t require all to have a hand as steady as the construct of a pyramid. Machines will always do a better job and all those with ailments with moving or hand/eye coordination, are safe from having to look at wonky stickers. In fact, that includes me, too!

This was a sweet build. the overall vehicle is tough and will be enjoyed amongst a City play space. I reckon it might even take some punishment if you want a spaceperson using it on the moon. It’s all in the imagination. Plastic bags are still on the menu, but it is relatively low on parts, so could be in one bag, rather than the two. The three wheel parts, for the roller wheel, were left out of the bags.

At £8.99, it is very typical for this price-point. As a time-killer for kids needing to be kept busy, this is great. The playability adds to the enjoyment and some of the build instructions can be quite satisfying. Creating the curved rear is well constructed, with certain parts forming without you noticing until the last moment. I always find it fun when this happens. The Minifigure chap is a happy dude, holding his spade with pride. He also comes with a hair piece. I went for the hat, as he’s keen to get flattening that concrete! The general mix of Basic and Technic has become quite normal, now. The roller wheel used Technic as a standard.

Like I always do, I give a rough estimate for timings, with each person being different. I work it out by seeing how long it takes me, then allow for 40%-60% more time for the average builder. There will be others that are considerably faster than I. It’s a small set with big fun. It’s worth the money and it’s a nice build for pocket money levels of consumerism.

First Impressions – Another great little set. Fun to be had during the buld…and after.

Price-Point – Average
