I went into the shop looking for a Lego set to build. This one was resting on the shelf at £19.99! I could see that this was a good price as the £24.99 retail price is very much average for the designer’s effort. Before now, I opted for other sets, but this time, the offer was one I didn’t want to miss. You will always pay a little more for the sets that are licensed, but F1 is renowned for being expensive. Have to seen the price of their official merch?

Opening the box, it has stickers inside, my first gulp of the build was made. I loved the amount of red and black that was used throughout, making it a truly Ferrari piece of kit. Bag one is all about the car. Even though it’s a simple build, there are some great choices by the Lego team. One thing that annoyed me, was the tubing used to surround the vehicle’s occupant. It folded, rather than bended, so I had to improvise and create a second kink to make it look squared off. This solved that issue, so I wasn’t too bothered, beyond it. The curves and colour choices make it look like a genuine model and I can see Lego adding more to this range. I would love to see a Williams Pit Crew set, next!

Bags two and three built the pit area. I love how it has a solid crew of four and that by pulling the lever behind the setup will close the barricades for them to change the wheels over. You might also notice that there is a second set of wheels with patternless centres. This is a great way to keep sets together and offer the experience of a quick change. I remember as a kid loving removing wheels, changing them, repairing the vehicle. This is just magnificent. There are screen that are where the stickers are used, but I love the use of the the equestrian tools for refuelling tools.

All in all, this is a fantastic build. It would be great, as a young one, to drive in and change them wheels before heading back to the track. Mixed with some roads, it would be additional fun to behold. There are some collectable minikit-cars to be had (these are released on the 1st May ‘2025,) but I am yet to see them in the shop. At full price it is a little beyond the birthday gift category, but I would say it would make a great gift in the Festive period of with some built-up pocket money. Excellent stuff…VROOM VROOM!
