The Long Wait

Ordering online is a relatively new thing. I have been using web-based shopping services for many years and have had very few problems. The only time that I don’t like, is the wait. With modern services, there is only 24 hours, if you’re unlucky, so it doesn’t really count. But…there are times when it does. Stock levels!

I have just ordered a belt sander for the workshop and have been told that there are none available until early May. They offered to either hold the order until it is available, or give a refund. I have chosen to wait for it, as it was the cheapest option that I came across. Now, I have to WAIT! It’s like the bad-old-days have returned.

There is one silver lining, though; at least I have the excitement of waiting for it. I remember this when I bought my first PC, a 486 DX2-80 that I ordered by sending a cheque to the company and recieving it many days later. I know that this is a good tool, and beyond the scope of a simple hobby-sander, so it will be worth it. What experiences have you had over the years? There are always times when a delivery fails or is damaged, but this seldom happens compared to a couple of decades ago. Let’s hope it’s as good as the reviews say!
