Have you noticed that the word ‘SMART‘ is splatted onto many products. We have become entwined with the use of this word, and I believe that we have lost what it means. In 2024, the overall consensus is that SMART, in terms of technology can include:
- Bluetooth
- Internet Connection
- Wireless
- App Store Compatibility
- Customisation
- AI Assistance
These are just a few, but are we getting less smart, because of them? We know that technology is smart. It will take jobs from us and give us more leisure time. It speeds up our workloads, too. It also allows us to dumb-down. We can sit back and let the robots make the effort. It feels like we are just slapping the word onto items, a bit like how we add RGB to the most inanimate of purchases.
Where is this going? Will technology in twenty years be smarter? Will today’s become stupid? I am just amiss at the way we sensationalise a word to sell a product. The AI bomb has dropped, now, that’s all we hear. Most people will never really use the AI to it’s maximum, and it is somewhat off an umbrella term for a much larger tech that we have seen little of.
