The Power of the External Outlet

In the grand scheme, there are many jobs that circulate in any household. Small repairs, a shelf fitting or a leaky tap fix can sit on the sidelines as we are busy keeping it all together. I know that I have a few of thes piling up, some even classed as essential, but there is one job that has been on the cards for the past three years. Everytime I unwind the extension and place it in the same spot before mowing the lawn, I think about the convenience of a socket on the wall, outside. I could just plug in the lawnmower and off I go.

As I had already created a 13A extension into the shed, It was an easy enough job to do. When I put the socket in the shed, I extended the line to the other end of the roof ready for another to be placed. This one had been taken off a wall where another extension hadn’t worked out, so I already had it. They are usually around £12.99 and are not ‘exactly’ a must-have, but more like a useful addition. Getting to use it will be the proof of whether it was a good use of ten minutes, or not.

Keeping it on a 13A line, makes it safer and within the law. It is also great to isolate the power by simply switching the socket off, inside. With a double socket now, in, and outside of the shed, it should provide more than enough power in the garden, whilst keeping it well below the limited ampage. A word of warning though: don’t do anything with electrics unless you are confident and follow all safety precautions.
