The Rules of Electrical Installation

I wanted to make a quick post about adding plug sockets in you home. If you look at the installation rules, you know that, in the UK, we can no longer install into the ring-main in our homes. Even so, we can create an extension that is kept to 13A, so that’s something. I have been thinking about adding more to my Workshop’s line, but thought about the importance of safety.

This tool is not too expensive and worth its weight in gold. It gives me fast feedback of whether I have made a mistake in my wiring. I, of course, do not mess with the ring-main, but am in the process of adding another extension-line to the brick-shed. Keeping within the rules, I know that it makes life easier to have sockets on it, rather than a hanging loose one. Get your hands on one of these if you plan to add sockets onto a 13A line, it is well worth it as it shows you if the wires are crossed, not connected properly, or spot-on! Be safe, be smart!
