The Tack Room Refurb – Hours 14-17

So, I have managed another few hours on the project and I have almost completed the first of the four furniture pieces. I headed over with less tools, this time, as there was no need to do much cutting or drilling. Like before, I cut and trimmed the upright boards so that they would slot in. I had forgotten that I also had to create another shelf board due the one breaking, last time.

Uprights going in.

This simplified it a little, as I realised that, with the uprights, I only needed the three pegs. Missing one off meant that I could slide the two into place and the push the single peg into the front groove. I didn’t need to pull it apart, which was great and saved a lot of time and effort.

Once the panels were settled into place, I varnished it up. This will be one of many coats, as it needs to be darker. Before I move onto the next part, I am going to add braces to a few of the shelves and put feet on the underside of the bottom shelf. I want to make it stronger and give it the best longevity I can. It has been decided to use the existing framework from the old shelving to create the rest of it. This was the original plan, anyway, and will save money and materials, too. The trimming is being diverted, as it actually looks quite rugged as it is. It looks like it suits and has always been there.
