It finally became time to do some more on the Tack Room. I decided to try a different way of constructing the shelves, so an experiment was in order. The first few hours was spent building the two skins, essentially, a set of fit-in modules. I made them to fit one of the specific holes (No.1 on the whiteboard); it later had its issues. Using my latest ‘Find’ (a £3 whiteboard), I drew out the units with their measurements. This made it so much easier than checking my phone.

Getting the modules to the stables, I tried them, to find they needed altering. I cut them down and slid them in to place. Although the experiment wasn’t a fail, it was a bit shabby looking. So, modular is not the way to go. I began the tall section in situ. I nailed the sides on after cutting out the necessary slots. I then began the process of cutting the shelves and marking one with the needed notches.

Due to the size, I made it so there would be a wider space in the middle of the three to accommodate the larger footwear. For now, I cut out the corners so that they would slot in and be of use until the next session. Time went fast, today, I was in a rush to complete the shelves and ready them for varnishing and filling. Next time, I will create the second skin (in front), but not before adding the uprights.
