Looking at modern entertainment options, it is astounding how much visual effects dominate all aspects that we watch. TV shows require vast amounts of pretend creations that not too long ago would have been seen as too expensive or lavish, even for movies. I have read an article about the industry that highlights a glaring problem; the lack of talent on the market is creating holes in the supply of its output.

This article from the BBC, talks about India’s VFX Industry and how it is struggling to keep up with demand. We little realise that many effects are created in India, where media outlets contract Mumbai studios to form detailed monsters and particle visuals. I do wonder how much of a hole will eventually strike the industry. Will the lack of talent mean that our tv shows and films will be turned back to an era of models and camera tricks? Will there then be short of talented model makers, having moved on since the dawn of ‘digital’? I think this draws a conclusion that could see a future for many wannabe artists.

This industry would do well to start promoting a career in the field. Artists often want to find their place in the world, a way to spread their style into the public eye. What a great way to distribute your skills. It might be that digital media isn’t for all, but designs start somewhere, and many could expand their skills to 3D modeling. The beauty of digital arts is that the digital world is huge. All areas of media are now using VFX. Gaming requires affects in 2D and 3D, with analogue drawing important to the overall process of it’s creation. This is another sector that has room for new talent.
I wanted to give a shout out to the talented people around the world, that help to form our favourite screen treats. Whatever we enjoy, there is place for our community’s artists, an industry that can give the budding young a potential future to work towards. Let’s encourage, and maybe, we can see the industry kept full of creative champions, working to fullfil our entertainment quotas and show us their greatest achievments.
