Over the past few months I have been seeing YouTube videos that are amazed by the wonders of this transceiver. At an estimated cost of £24, it’s a diamond in the rough and set up against some of the great products that cost a lot more! The biggest benefit from this radio is that it can be modded to extend its capabilities. So, what all the fuss about? After I bought one, it arrived in five working days. This isn’t bad considering I often get the wrong thing sent to me from this service; I’m still waiting for my multi-tool-socket from a few years ago!

This is just an open-ended start to reviewing this piece of kit. I have just recieved one through Aliexpress, at a grand cost of £14.17. The build quality is immense! It is solid and when turned on is set to hit you with a steep learning curve. I have had experience of radios in the past. From childhood I was on the CB with this handle, The Menace. In recent years I purchased a couple of scanners, one of which I still own, an Uniden UBC-125-XLT. This is a new fish in my radio bowl. It offers dual-band and even a sassy FM radio, if that’s your cup if tea. As I am still learning about it, I will keep this post, brief.

The box that arrived was a little beaten up, but it was all okay. I was amazed at the inclusion of a charging dock. Even if it is a two-pronged plug, I simply plugged it in to the bathroom shaver socket. I have an adaptor, somewehere, I need to dig it up. It does allow for USB-C charging, but the very basic instructions state that it should only be used in an emergency! What does that mean? Why is that the case? As an electronic toy, it is incredible, and I will report back when I have learned more.
