Vyv’s Key Break-Down

Vyvyan is an old van, at lease in the crux of automobile lifespans. This week, my key decided to break. Now, this wasn’t in the conventional way, it decided that the ‘unlock’ button would break into the casing. The rest of the key is okay, but the shell has begun to break down. Instead of pushing my thumb into the teeny gap, I would replace the casing. At £4.19, it wasn’t really going to break the bank, at least not for most Vyv upgrades. I even came across some silicon covers for it, which I might consider.

The key comes apart easy enough, but the brittleness of the plastic meant that it would break on doing so. It’s busted, anyway, so that’s fine. The new casing is well made, looks nice and tidy, and the board just pops over. The key is well sturdy, though, so this will need a but of coaxing out of the gap. One issue is that the jet comes with a CR2032 button cell, but mine has a small DL1220. This one is still working, so I will leave it, for now. The switches are also working fine, inside, so the new ones can be kept for another time. The thought was there, though! Just a quick post to show the simplicity of a vehicle key. The board is the most expensive part of it, as it has to be reprogrammed upon replacement. Well, it’s a fresh part for Vyv. That always makes me happy.
