Why is Warhammer, SO Expensive?

When my daughter first got into Warhammer, I was shocked by the cost of the models. These sets are moulded and chucked into a box. Part of the joy is to form them, with painting them up as a final step before you place them into battle. Putting aside the cost of the many paints needed for a good look, the tools to trim them, the glue to bind them and the primer to get it all started, these are something akin to buying a tank of fuel for Vyvyan. But, I think I have found the answer…

I have noticed that there are many, not to the happiness of Games Workshop, that are 3D printing their models, for a third of the price of each one. They can customise them, or use blatant rip-offs of the real ones, whatever’s the case, I think that the price for real ones can be reasoned with. If you were short on cash, I can see the appeal of printing a few off to bring your battle numbers up to scratch, but I have been looking at the cost of Airfix planes.

I used to quite like a model aircraft. The time taken, the painting, was all fun and made for many hours of concentrated creativity. So, not compare them! It’s the same thing, and I can now see that in my mind, the Airfix or Revell models are still a tenner, at most, but they are not! They are comparable to the Warhammer materials and expectations. They need to be painted, too! So, whenever I think about a set costing £47.50, I think about the cost of a simple Spitfire from the Airfix range and compare the amount of materials you get. Take a look, yourself…
