Set Review – 42609 Friends Electric Car

It’s time for another, colourful, Friends set. This time, though, it’s a modern twist to Lego car sets, it’s all-electric! I have said it before, but I do like the minidolls, where in the past I was sceptical. I see their point, and understand the direction that Lego were heading, to draw in the potential of girls playing with their product. I have had some fun, building these, in the past, but this one is a little lacking. The two dolls are sweet. We are given Zac and Nova, all set to have a picnic, while their car is charging at the solar-charging-station. They have also brought along Dango…a dog.

The first part to be built, is the environmental layout. This included the charger, a few plants, and the picnic table. You can see from the pictures that there are stickers! Three, to be precise. One to show the solar-panel design, and two for the stump-cushions. It is three too many, for my liking! The second bag was the parts for the car. This was a tidy build. The formation shows nice details of the convertible vehicle, made to sit both of the characters. It also boasts a boot space, under the bonnet.

Overall, this was a simple build. It is nice for those that want a colourful, straight, build. I would say that the car was quite fiddly in places, making is ideal for motor-skills practise. If I haven’t said it enough, the colours are marvellous. Just that, alone, is enough to create the Lego joy, that all sets, more often than not, offer. One thing that I noticed, was that the car has a charge port on either side, I’m not sure how mant EVs offer this in real-life. Pickiness aside, I was so glad that thre was no sign of number-plates on the car. I have always felt that they are uneccessary and make you add two more stickers to it. Not nice!

The dog is in there, I promise!

In summary…grab it if you want to add to your Friends collection, or if you like a simple, straight, build. I paid £8, for this. Whilst the full cost is only £10, this is not too bad at the cost I had. At £10…I would think, first!

First Impressions – Very basic, but a nice addition to a Friends layout.

Price-Point – Average

Time to Build – 30-40 Minutes

Score: 6/10
