I was after a small set to fill in a gap, in January, and here we are. I paid £5 for this, and have found that, unboxed, it is sold at around £10. So it’s not bad, in terms of investment, it what about playability? Well…although I concede defeat when it is made for 4-7 year olds, it doesn’t mean they should be sold underwhelming sets. The overall quality of car’s body, feels cheap. Without all the stamps and the original box, I would question whether it is real Lego. Either way, what is the set all about?

Young builders can expect a simple build, with it using a solid chassis to build upon. The main build is within the timing platform. This was built….wrong…so I pulled it apart, and started again. It comes together, very fast. There is a small ramp for Lightning to roll down. He is moved by the action of a lever, that hits the car and pushes it. With it being a find, the stickers had already been added, which was a bonus….or at least I thought…these were factory added, so that meant there were no stickers, in the first place! The box was in bad shape, and the instructions were poorly looked after, but as a find, it’s fine, and I hope that some child has enjoyed it.

There is not a lot of play in it, although coupled with the Mater set, I imagine that it would be of some fun. these are both retired, now, but like this one, you may find one in the wild. All in all, this is not as impressive as it could be, but I can see the appeal if you are a fan of Cars.
First Impressions – simplified for small hands, not so great, overall.
