Set Review – 60488 Fries Truck

Even though I adore the 4+ range that Lego offer, this one is not in that range, yet is built like one. Unlike the other trucks that have been released, this 2026 release is simpler in its design. If a small child like this they will have little issue, but an older child will feel unchallenged by the build! Instructions are separated with the two bags, forming to pods to create. The first is about the truck, the second, about the kiosk on its back. It does show that this box can be places on the ground, which is a great option in design. There are two things that show this is 4+ based, with older play, in mind. The first is the ‘hands’ in the instruction booklets. The accessibility is great with this, but it is unexpected. The second, is the parts that are pre-fitted together. Where two parts would be offered, this is already moulded into one! What is interesting, is that when you search for 4-5 year old sets, on Lego’s site, as of writing this, this set pops up, first. This feels like a move on Lego’s design structure and marketing. I guess, we shall see.

As a build, you start with a solid chassis, something Lego is going back to in modern vehicle sets, it comes together, fast. The shape of the vehicle is fantastic, definitely looking like people’s choice of older, rounded, shapes for their food vans, of late. There are NO STICKERS, so that is pleasing. I have thought about a downside to no stickers, something that came to me. Would there be a sudden rise in separate pieces if all were printed? It would likely make finding a specific missing piece, difficult to attain. Whatever…I like that there are no stickers, this is more accessible!

I love the use of the wheel discs, but it comes into its own when the second bag is opened and you start to construct the kiosk. My score is based on it being compared to other ‘kiosk’ trucks that Lego have released, and so this is very different, opting to go with a simplistic build style. This has the normal construction techniques, with the instruction hands still offered. There is nothing special about this, apart from the fact that it looks amazing. It has a sliding window, which also opens up, but nothing can beat the squirty ketchup bottle on the side!

Regardless of simplicity, I do like this. It was one of those sets that I just needed. It might be something to do with me loving the food-based builds and minifigures, but having a Slushy Truck, a Pizza Truck, Burger-Van and Doughnut Truck, what’s one more? I would wait for this to be lower priced, online. By the Summer, this is likely to happen, so just bide your time. A £12.99 outlay will be just fine. In terms of play, this is a nice addition to that street-food court that you have been building!

I Love Those Wheel Discs!

First Impressions – Fantastic looking, not challenging!
