Inventors and Theft

A few days ago saw the birthday of one the UK’s most well known inventors, Sir Alexander Graham Bell. It got me thinking about inventions that were suspected as being stolen or those they just ‘pipped’ to the post. It is well documented that the telephone was most likely first thought up and prototyped by Elisha Gray and was also created somewhere in Italy. (…and somewhere on the islands of South America.)

Even if these are false claims, they show how important some ideas are, to keep under wraps. Charles Edison was another one suspected of stealing ideas. It is hard to know how true it is, as competitors will have dowsed themselves in negativity and hate. It works on the old adage of those that are successful, are remembered. Mr. Edison certainly achieved that.

Let’s consider how we can hold onto ideas. If these people didn’t do anything wrong, there will be some, that will. Fame is afforded to the brave and the risk takers, it’s not an excuse for being a thief and poor individual. Keep your brain-sparks under your hat. Develop your amazing invention and stay quiet, for you never know who is listening.
