I picked this chipper/mulcher up a couple of years ago. It was being thrown out, so I thought I’d take ownership of it. Since then, I have covered it up and stored it in Steph’s back yard. I have now decided it is time to get it running and chipping the weeds into oblivion. There a lot of brambles that I want to see mushed up and spat out. Having looked over the unit, it is in great condition for the use it will have seen. My place is to service it, by:
- Removing the covers so that it can be cleaned and painted up.
- Replace the gaskets on the carb and fuel-valve.
- A new pull-cord. (The current one snapped on its fifth pull!)
- Refresh the petrol.

I shall then go from there and replace parts, should it be needed. I did spot that the underside of the fuel-system is leaking, so I am hoping that the new gasket upgrades will make the difference. This engine is a Launtop. It’s a Chinese engine that is the larger of the ones available, coming in at a reasonable 16hp! I would imagine that this is chosen so that it can chew up branches down the side-chute. If you had lower power, it would get jammed. Because it is hard to find gasket sets for this, even though I am sure there will be after-market offerings out there, I am going with a liquid version, so that I can seal it up without having to cut some out. I wonder how this will go…whatever, I am sure it will be a cut above the rest! I’ll keep you posted!
