Set Review – 60481 Rides Police Car

I stumbled upon this set as I left Toys ‘R’ Us, in town. I had not heard of this new range, and thought I would grab one. To cut the story short, I will be buying the other four. These are the digger, racing car and the fire engine. From looking at the box, it appeared to be a simple build with a fixed chassis. This is what Lego goes for, at the moment, and when it turned out to be the opposite, I was stunned.

Inside the box, you will find many of the pieces are loose, with some placed into two, small, pappy bags. You can see that this is ‘small’ in its nature. The design is for small hands to build, but has the quality of those for older children. I would say that ANY age can build this police car, quite happily, as it is not unlike building a basic version of one of the camper-vans or the London Bus. I must say, the loose pieces were quite a shock. I was very happy that you have a choice of rims for the wheels, too. You can use the eight spoke, but I opted for the five, as my VW Bug days saw many an Empi-5 on my travels!

The end result is a rapid build, but one that feels like an achievement, but is made for all abilities. I like this. It is a perfect party gift or a set for pocket-money. They are only around the £8 mark, making these a good value, teeny-build. The small instruction booklet is setup like the 4+ ideals, ready for little ones to know what they need for the next part of their construction. I will be getting the other three, as I am quite taken with the outcome of it. The play, for younglings, is so apparent. A carpet race for the speddy car, or a building site for the digger, imagination is what this style of build is for. Certainly a purchase to grab, if you want to build with little time to hand! It is this kind of set design that feels like old Lego, the type that I built, as a kid, more than thirty-five years ago!

First Impressions – A better set than I expected. More to it than the box shows!
