It’s time for another mini-build from the Technic range. I have wanted this set, for a while, but couldn’t quite get my hands on it. It is, just by looking at the box, a very simple build, but it lends itself to younger builders that are looking to start out with the more complicated ideas in Lego constructions. The box arrived in a state, which is sad, but all the parts were still okay and there was no loss of bags during its transit. Even in this size, there is still some mechanical workings, to it really does try to introduce the complexity found in the expanded range. As with all tracked vehicles, this requires the teeny track pieces to be chained together, not an easy feat for my big hands.
From the start, this feels more complicated, and something that I didn’t mention in the video, was that I feel the 7+ on this is a little young. The buggy set, from a few weeks ago, was a little simpler than the axle-slips that this one requires, but saying that, I love for younglings to be challenged. We have placky-bags, which is quite sad, but overall, it’s a lot of small pieces, that all get tipped out together. I would suggest a small tub, or bowl, for the track parts, as this will mean there is less of the little blighters spread over your work space. Like the biggest of Technic sets, this one is a matter of creating the base of the chassis, and then putting one side of it on. You then add the gubbins and other side to complete the shell. I do love how the base also includes beginning the mechanism, with this one allowing you to raise and lower the skid scraper, on the front.
As it you come to the end of putting all forty-eight track pieces, together, made into two, identical loops, you have a few bits to do, that includes adding the skid to the front, and sliding the axles into place for the whole gearing to take effect. I love these smaller Technic builds as they offer some tricky construction with the joy of my favourite range. This is even touted as a ‘gift-idea’ on Amazon. I wouldn’t wanted to have handed this box over as a gift, it had clearly been thrown about! But, as a a fresh gift, it’s nice that they’d like to see 7 year-olds having a crack at it. Nice set, good times!
