The Ulla Diaries – Ulla’s Cave

Okay, okay, okay…this is another post about Ulla, and I am in love with my bike, and that is true, and I don’t care! Now then, after that rant, I want to show Ulla’s new cave. As I couldn’t keep her in the living room, forever, I wanted a good cover for her, on the drive. The orange and black one was a great buy, but she has been kept under a roof for many years, and I didn’t want to break that. If it was easy to bring her in the house, I would have carried on, to be honest.

Having bought a soft-shed, before, I was keen to use one asn Ulla home, for the foreseeable future. This one was less than £50! It is not as strong as the other one, but will be okay for the job. The hardest thing to do, is keep it on the ground in strong winds. For now, there are two weights attached to the bars, inside. I have anchored the right-hand side to some ground-screws and will look at making stone blocks for the left. The bars are spring loaded and just push together, except for the bottom bar on each side. These are fastened together with short bolts, and onto the main frame with longer ones. The cover is placed over the top and bungee‘d onto the bars. The end walls, including the back wall and door panel, are the fixed them, onto the corner bars.

I would have bought another one of the last one I built, but it wouldn’t have been big enough. The bike stretches, more than, seven feet (2.2m.) She just about fits in, and with some pursuasion, I can add the Givi box, onto the back. My next step is to add a chain and possible ground-anchor to attach her to. Although she is out of the way, and very heavy, people will steal anything, sadly. So, Ulla’s Cave is real! Let’s see if it blows away, or not.
