During this heavy heatwave, I decided to try and control the crippling heat that is in my home. As a new build, it has amazing technology. The Winter is a lot warmer with these innovations, but the house has a major floor. The front windows, other than the small bedroom, have huge windows. the lounge has an ‘almost’ floor to ceiling height, meaning that when the sun inevitable moves over to the front of the building, it acts like a greenhouse in both rooms. It is already dry in the house, and any chance of some moisture in the air is soon removed by the glare of Helios! What if there was a way to bounce that heat right back at it?
Looking around and reading about various methods to control the heat, I wanted to find a way to help the rooms not get to the 31degrees in the first place, and mostly, meaning that it will not have that heat to hold onto for the next three days! I had seen people using tin foil on their windows, so I thought I’d give it a go. Buying some cheap turkey foil, I stuck it to the window with tape. After the fact, I needed to fully cover the glass, but I didn’t want there to be ‘no’ light! I can honestly say that it has kept the room down by around 3 degrees. It’s not massive, but it is a markable difference and far more manageable for sleep and that TV time comfort. I would recommend it, but be aware that you do look like you harbour some paranoia for a government conspiracy. Anything for time without baking! It’s also good to mention that with the window open, the wind likes to rattle the foil a bit, so you may need to add more tape to keep it quieter…especially when you’re trying to sleep.
