Set Review – 43264 Toy Story Train and RC

I have had this sitting on the wayside, for a while. It is still available, and I reckon a very likely set that has been purchased for many a gift. So, it’s time to check it out. Current prices feel a bit steep, especially for a 4+ set. I believe that this is another victim of pricing to match the license. Even so, it is cute, and on sale, would be a fine purchase, I reckon. So how does it fair? Is the money worth it for this colourful, joyous, build?

From the off, you can see that there is a sweet sentimentality about this set. The carnival float-style, is sweet, with wood-like locomotive, Buzz’s Ranger Ship, and a space for Bo and her sheep. RC is a simplified build, but very cute, as would be expected from a great character. There is only ‘so much’ expectation with this age-set creation, but it isn’t a bad build, by any means. Having said all of this, it caught me off-guard. Opeing the box, I was presented with a paper envelope for the instruction booklets, and four placky bags. This is expected, as the set was from around the time they were testing the pappy bags, out. The colours hit you, and from bag one, the build gets exciting.

Each of the train bodies is ready to build upon, but the tops require a little more to construct, especially when the set is for 4+ year olds. I have said in the past that it is a shame that the challenge is stemmed for the younglings, but this one changes that. So happy! Each figure is fantastic, with just a sneaky alien missing from the line-up. The locomotive is like a wooden toy-train style, and the other wagons are set for the specifics of the characters on-board. These are, Jessie on the loco, Buzz in his Ranger Shuttle, Bo-Peep and sheep, on her seesaw, and Woody sat on RC, shooting up the rear. RC is the most dazzling small build. this is created from scratch and offers the younglings a step up in building. It all comes together, so well. It is not a cheap set, but at this design level it feels like effort was put in and the outcome more desirable than many sets from the past few years. With four separate builds in the box, this could be a multi-child build, making for a great brick-party. A pricey gift, but this would be a winner, hands-down. I am in awe!

First Impressions – A surprisingly more complex set for the 4+ range!
