Having had my trusty, little, 3D printer, for the past ten years, it was time for me to upgrade. My dear partner, Steph, decided that she would get me one, for my birthday. Instead of stopping at a modernised version of the one I have, I chose to opt for the biggest one in the price range. The best thing is, it was on sale! At a standard price of £477, it is good money for what you get, but this was only £227m as the sale, plus a £50 discount voucher, made it plummet! MY DaVinci cost me £190, originally, and as you can see from the picture, it could be printed by this new one!
The leviathan that you see in the photos, is an Elegoo Neptune 4 – MAX! With my old printer being able to print, upto, 15cm squared, this one, is at 42cm! It is often bought by those that want to:
- Build multiple parts, at once, as it is an economic way of getting your parts in one go.
- Create large prints instead of having to combine many into one build.
- Cosplayers that like to create their outfits, ie. masks etc.
It was interesting to build, taking about 45minutes, in all. As an open printer, it is generally built by the consumer, with old printers being a pick ‘n’ mix of parts that can be upgraded in the future. The DaVinci was like a toy, that was ready built, and just needed parts swapping out, when they packed-up. For me, it’s all bout being able to create larger parts, in particular, for my DKn project. For now, I need to practise with it, and that will come up in a future post. It took two days to find a spot that it would sit in, more akin to a white-good, rather than a peripheral! I will review it’s splendour at another time, I look forward to seeing what it offers.
