It has come to my attention that my magnificent chipper, the one I was given, has been sat waiting for TLC, for far too long. What’s the first thing I should do? Try to start it again? Turn the fuel on? Nope! I need to strip it down and fix a few things:
- New gasket for the fuel pump: When you switch the fuel line on, it will pour out of the pump, as the point that it is sealed to the engine, is not working correctly.
- New Drive-Belt: The old belt that links the engine turning, to the blade mechanism is dry and completely perished.
- A paint-up and TLC: Some de-cobwebbing is in order. I also want to paint the tinware to clean it up.

This is part one, as I am only ‘part’ way to dismantling it. So far, I have removed the two feeding spouts, both large and small, from the chipper’s body. The tinware over the drive-belt has been removed, too. I have also checked the spark-plugs for a charge. They appear to be working fine. There is still compression in the case, and with the new pull-rope being added, many months, ago, I am ready to get this beauty started. I do, however, need to shorten it, a little. I believe that with a proper feed, it will start up.

I have noticed that the blade freely spins, which is great. There is no grind from the bearings, either. The next part will hopefully come in a short while. This will entail removing the engine from the body. Cleaning the body up. Sorting the leak and getting the engine started. Let’s see where this goes. I made a decision, a few months back, that I would fix this before I start college. I hope that I can…I really do!
