When this released, a couple of months ago, I wanted it. I have a love for the City vans that they release every so often. So far there has been a Donut Van, Pizza Van, Burger Van, Fry Van, Penguin Slushy Van, and now, this one. I do love the small sets that are placed upon the tiles. I first saw this with the ‘Lego Brand’ shop, for which there has been a couple of them, in the past. From first look, I do like that it is run by a pair of characters. More often, you get a vendor and a buyer, in the box. Just gives the idea of a couple that run their own Lego franchise, on the road. This set is found for £24.99. I was able to but it for £17.99, which I believe is more on par with what it should really cost. The full price is more like a licensed set than that of Lego’s own intellectual properties.
It all starts with pappy-bags, so that’s great, but that’s not all…there are NO stickers! You can see the glow of the Lego yellow shining through, even before you open them! I did think that this might have a ‘fixed’ chassis, being that the set is a 6+ offering, but this was not the case.
The chassis is built from the first 2×16 flat piece that it all rests on. The two characters are great, but I do feel that the geezer looks a little too much like me…again! He has a coffee mug, whilst the lady is seen with a sack-trolley. You could mix this up, of course, but it is just how Lego have portrayed them. Once the bed is complete, there is a cool, fixing spot for the pallet to sit on. This has four different sets on top, and can be placed in the back through the hinged sides. The art on each side is different; I love the simplicity of its colours!
I love that it has two seats so that both can be on board. the driving space even had a centre cushion, showing the price that Lego are willing to pay for delivery in style! It all comes together in a neat set. I paid less for this, and it was well below the average for what you get, I would say, after its build, that the £24.99 is pushing it, with a tag of £21.99 being more realistic. There is so much play potential, here. A cool display vehicle, one that shines that the love of Lego, or a brum-brum for the living-room floor. I like this and have enjoyed building it. Pieces are used to shape it and give a cool aesthetic to the vans look. There is a small bonnet to lift, with a small engine inside. I can’ help feel that it is a little under-powered for the task-in-hand. Still, it’s worth the time and money if you want a branded set to get stuck into.
