The September ’26 Update – Health and Fitness

There is very little to report, this month, apart from the change in my diet and exercise regime. I guess that’s a lot, but it mostly boils down to going back to college, at 48 years old, and time being taken up, more than ever! You can read my ‘Old Codger’ student diary in it’s own post, click here. It’s just an update of how being older makes it more difficult, but also, liberating. I had noticed that I was a little weaker than normal, which was duly noted when weighing-in, this month. It is now at 16st 1lb (102.1kg.) The past few months have shown a low, extra, burn, at the end of them, this month has been different, with it being more than three thousand excess calories.

Calorie Checking Chart:

Monthly Total Consumed:Monthly Total Burned:Monthly Total Difference:
117,185 kcals120,500 kcals3,315 kcals (Extra Burn)

Steph and I did out marshaling for the Alderford Triathlon, earlier in the month. We were on the finish line, so it made for quite a fresh perspective. Aside from that change, I am running the Stafford 10K, tomorrow…as of writing this post. I shall write about it, next month, with the medal on show. Actually, that sounds quite confident…not a normal response…from me, anyway. I aim to continue with a new setup, that includes:

  • Running 10K+ – Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Gym and Dog Walk – Saturdays
It’s a sweaty business!

With Winter fast approaching, I know that it will change even more, but I hope it has minimal impact. I rely on my routines, and I believe that it is that, that has made this a successful couple of years. I regularly ask myself if it is all worth it, and I think that it would be easy(ish) to step back and just concentrate on study and engineering, but there’s a sense of grounding built into my exercise and diet. If only there was a way to harness that, so that other can be shown it, at the start, perhaps more would continue and become healthier as a result. Until next month, hopefully with that medal in-hand, be safe, and be you!
